The Department of Intensive Care was newly established in 2009 to safely provide strong and intensive treatment and care for critically ill patients with acute organ failure. It is one of the few independent intensive care departments in Japan.
We oversee and manage the Intensive Care ICU (18 beds) and HCU (15 beds).
The unique feature of our department is that, in addition to the usual management of postoperative patients and severe medical diseases, we are able to experience a wide variety of cases such as severe heart failure (left ventricular assist heart implantation, heart transplantation), adult congenital heart disease, postoperative management of heart, liver, kidney and pancreas transplantation, severe infection and severe respiratory failure in patients in an immunosuppressed state.
To enhance the quality of intensive care, our ICU and HCU provide intensive care management by a multidisciplinary and multidisciplinary team consisting of intensivists and physicians in charge, as well as specialists in various departments, nurses, pharmacists, clinical engineers, physiotherapists, and dieticians.
The mission of intensive care is to restore organ function and save critically ill patients by providing intense and intensive treatment and care for severe acute organ failure of the respiratory, circulatory, metabolic, and cranial nerves, regardless of whether the disease is surgical or medical in nature. The Department of Intensive Care provides the basic knowledge and (analgesic sedation, circulatory management, and respiratory management) necessary for the systemic management of critically ill patients.
We hold study groups and journal clubs in collaboration with other facilities (intensive care unit, emergency department, etc.), so you can learn a wide range of knowledge by being exposed to the education of other facilities.
We conduct and can participate in a number of studies as described below.
Academic activities will be targeted and will be thesis-driven. In addition, residents pursuing a degree will be supported in their research.
- Pathophysiology of acute respiratory failure
- Ventilatory management (including monitoring of transpulmonary pressure, EIT, pulmonary echocardiography, etc.)
- Point-of-care ultrasonography
- Sleep and delirium in intensive care
- Outcomes of intensive care (Participation in the Japanese ICU Patient Database (JIPAD) of the Japanese Society of Intensive Care Medicine)
- Rapid response system
- Education by simulator
