In child health nursing at our university, children are considered to be "individuals who should be respected as individuals," "individuals who continue to grow and develop in interaction with their environment," and "individuals with unlimited potential. The course focuses on children and their families at all health levels and in all situations, from newborns to adolescents and young adults, and provides nursing care for their healthy growth and development, maintenance, recovery, and promotion of health, alleviation of pain, and comfort in life. Students will consider nursing care that supports children's bright and lively lives and explore nursing care that protects the best interests of children.
Research activities in the field of child health nursing focus on support
for children with chronic health problems, home support for children with
severe mental and physical disabilities and their families, and child health
nursing education.
In the Introduction to Child Health Nursing, which is the beginning of the study of child health nursing, students will deepen their understanding of the children who are the target of nursing care. Students learn about the characteristics of children's growth and development and the social environment surrounding children and their families and acquire basic knowledge and concepts to support the healthy growth and development of children at various developmental stages.
In this course, students learn about children and their families at various health levels and in various situations, from the aspects of children's growth and development, life, health, and nursing. While acquiring new knowledge, students also engage in child health nursing skills exercises and think broadly and concretely about nursing care for children in this phase of study. Students learn about nursing care for the maintenance and promotion of the healthy growth, development, and health of children living in all kinds of environments, including medical institutions, homes, schools, and local communities.
In the Child health Nursing Practicum, students learn about children's lives and specific nursing assistance. Students take care of children hospitalized in the child health ward of Tokyo Women's Medical University Hospital, etc., and gain a comprehensive understanding of children's growth and development, health conditions, and daily life, and consider and practice nursing care tailored to the child's condition so that the child can live, grow, and develop in his/her own way. The students will respect the child's wishes and explore through practice the nursing care that protects the best interests of the child.
